Exploring the Future of Automobile Travel

Discover in our new position piece how automobile travel may change and what this means for the automotive and recreational vehicle industry. Designed to spark innovation and fresh thinking, we're outlining 10 hypotheses and signals of change that may help manufacturers and service providers anticipate and prepare for the future.

The automobile is exceptional at expanding one's horizon and discovering the world

True automobility offers something far richer than just commuting from point A to point B – the freedom to travel and explore; to meet, connect and experience the world firsthand. Unlike any other mode of transport, driving a car, truck or recreational vehicle provides a deeply visceral way to engage with the world, blending control, speed and discovery in a way no other form of travel can replicate.

The size of your world is shaped by how easily, affordably, and efficiently you can move between places. Distance itself is a concept defined by the mode of transport you use – a world on two legs is different than a world on four wheels.

The automobile has long been a tool for expanding one’s horizons, enabling people to venture beyond their usual surroundings – whether exploring a new part of town, travelling to another city, venturing into the wilderness, reaching remote destinations, or even crossing mountain ranges. It enables people to step out of their usual habitats and experience new neighborhoods, foreign cultures, and diverse landscapes.

Automobile travel today is vastly different to what it was a century ago, and in the next 10-20 years, we anticipate even more profound changes.
